A southerly change today delivers cooler conditions to Otago and Southland, giving residents a break from recent unseasonal heat as summer edges closer.

Just mid-week, Dunedin recorded its highest November temperature in years — 30.4°C before 2pm, making it the hottest place in the country at the time.Those high readings surpassed previous November records dating back to 2008 and 2009, when temperatures reached around 31 °C.

Southerly Change Brings Cooler Air

From today onward, forecasters expect significant cooling: Dunedin may reach just 19 °C, while the weekend high is forecast near 21 °C. Inland, Invercargill is likely to see a high of 17 °C today and between 16–18 °C for the weekend. Along with the temperature drop, breezy conditions are expected to continue in several parts of the regions.
