Rations Lunch Bar Cafe
What other Aucklanders are saying about Rations Lunch Bar Cafe.
Customer : 10/10 these bad reviews are rubbish this place is class
Customer : love this place, I always try to support when I am in the area. Real ‘mom and pop’ place, the owners are so friendly and Covid has been real hard on them (with less working people and uni students). Their food has always been good.
Customer : My regular cafe was closed today so I decided to try Rations Cafe. Very disappointed with the coffee, it was bad to say the least. Bought four coffees, and everyone agreed that it was bad. Burnt coffee!
Customer : I love this cafe. I really don’t think the owners are judging people by the amount of money they spend… perhaps there is a language barrier that makes people think the owners are not nice… but if you try talk to them you will find that they are lovely and just trying to get by. The lockdown has been hard for them so I really urge you to support local rather than the chains. The food I’ve had has always been really nice- their bagels are SO YUMMY and sandwiches was fresh and very flavourful. Definitely reccoment this place.
Customer : Food and coffee was good and priced well. My only issue which I guess is a big one, even though no one was there I felt like we were inconveniencing the owners. Given 1 sachet of sugar each to go with out coffees. No spoon to stir with. No napkins. Not alot of effort to satisfy the only 2 paying customers at the time
Customer : Comfy café. Freshly prepared food.
Central city location. Old home style. Great retro interior.
Customer : The food here is fairly basic but they actually do really good sandwiches and the toasties are nice. It kind of reminds me of a cafe from 20 years ago (and that is not an insult.. you might like it)
Customer : horrible saggy sandwiches, rotten muffins,
worst coffee and miso soups.
Plus, the respect you receive is totally related to the money you spend, i.e. no respect for purchase less than 5 dollars!!!!
I used to buy my lunch from this place but the sandwich bread is 10 times worse than the budget bread in the “countdown” supermarket. They used to save money by using two different type of bread in one SANDWICH!!! YES THAT is right… one side was whole grain and one side was crappy white cheap bread!!!!Besides, they barely put chicken or protein in the buns or sandwiches ( 5 grams or less), it s mainly butter and mayo and some rotten smelly old leaves.
I had to reduce my purchase to a coffee and a scone later, but coffee was usually burnt !!!!
then I switched to miso soup and onagiri ( sushi bun) but at this stage they started to reduce the respect as I paid less money. Onagiri is basically rice and mayo, You wont be able to find more than 5 grams of tuna or chicken in it !!!!!! I mean it.
They finally gave me hot water as miso soup yesterday and I finally decided to write this review and never go back there.
