Customer : Upstairs in Smith and Caugheys is a worm hole in time. Walk past the gifts department and into an old school NZ coffee shop.
I’m a cake fan and all the cakes are simple old school baking. Apple pie, cherry pie, cheesecakes, lemon meringue, just like Grandma used to make.
There’s still plenty of other choices of pastries, doughnuts, hot food etc but I’ll be back to sample all those cakes, with either cream or yoghurt.
There are also newspapers to read! Just like the old days
Customer : If you state you’re open till the hours you say, please don’t close the kitchen before time, then proceed to tell me it’s been a quiet day.
Have been here many times and enjoyed the food, but this experience was pretty disappointing!!!

Coffee was fantastic and we had Devonshire scones and Bacon and Egg Pie with a top up off Cheese cake

Customer : I was not in Auckland as a boy when top floor cafes were favorite places for families coming to town. Well I made up for it in this visit to Smith & Caughey’s Bite cafe. Excellent coffee nice nibbles and a restrained classy atmosphere
Customer : I’m a big coffee lover, and I have to say that the cappuccino here is really good. I ordered a Ham, Egg and Tomato Club Sandwich and was really good.
The staff is friendly and attentive, next time I come to city with more time, I will try some of their breakfast options.
Customer : A peaceful haven. Reasonably good coffee although you do have to request a double shot. But this morning my Spinach and Feta Roll was totally forgettable. Bland, dry ( how long had it been in the cabinet), feta conspicuous by its absence. Good needs to be improved. Next time might go next door to the Stables
