Bread & Butter Bakery and Cafe
What other Aucklanders are saying about Bread & Butter Bakery and Cafe.
Customer : As per my old photo – this was my Saturday treat – Bavarian pretzel. I would come across the city (often with friends) to grab those!
Or I would pick them up at the High St Market. Love traditional pretzels… and I was advocating for it big time!
Yesterday, I went again and not for the first time – pretzel was stale. No joy there!
I wanted to make sure I didn’t get stale pretzel and before buying it I mentioned it to the lady at the checkout, she gave me “The look” with the comment ‘here, everything is always fresh!?’ and yet again my pretzel wan not!
$3 a pop and trip across the city – one would think fresh product is not much to ask!
You don’t know how to do it, or keep it fresh, don’t do it at all!
Once, after buying stale pretzels, I was told all the pretzels are baked the ‘night before’!?
Is that an excuse or something else.
Need to know how to make it well? Please visit Countdown Metro Herne Bay, they make perfect traditional pretzels!
Don’t think I will be back.
Sorry, loved the establishment and I really invested in going there, but now, I don’t think it is worth it.
Customer : I had the French toast and it was spectacular, I loved all the components of the dish and they combined in a delicious way. I also got a loaf of sourdough bread which was very good as well. Would definitely recommend and will be back
Customer : We came in at 2pm. We asked if they were serving lunch, they welcomed us in and seated us, gave us menu’s etc. not long after the food arrived, we were asked to leave the cafe because they close at 2.30pm. This is while we were still eating our food that we paid for.
Ended up leaving without finishing our food, which wasn’t cheap but I always opt to support local businesses in my area.
We wouldn’t have minded if they had told us before we were seated that they were closing shortly 🙁
Customer : Bakery cabinet is very good and lots of yummy options. Kitchen food going out quickly but I’m not a fan of food decoration. Cafe on the other hand is a big let down. Drinks came to table when we nearly finish our food. Smoothie and iced coffee tasted like they’ve been blended in the same jug and not very fresh ingredients.
Customer : Love the decor and ambience of the cafe. The coffee was good and also the cream brûlée donut! We tried two dishes from the food menu (crispy corn fritter and Eton mess), not quite like them, sorry. However, the cabinet foods look great and We will come back to try out. Thank you.
Customer : We stopped by to grab an online order. There were plenty of parking spaces closer to the cafe. We grabbed one of the gingerbread houses and a frozen croissant. The croissants came with instructions with how to make them. Sadly, the gingerbread house didn’t come with icing so we weren’t able to do it.
Edit: We were refunded for the house and were able to keep it. The instructions were a bit hard to follow, it would’ve been easier with pictures, but we did manage to figure it out. The gingerbread was quite spicy so seens to cater for adult tastes.
Edit: We tried their frozen croissant and they were really good. Nice and crispy outside, soft but not too bready on the inside. It was easy to prepare with thier instructions, leaving it overnight in the oven and then baking it the next day.
Customer : Very busy place. The cabinet food always run out quickly. Decent coffee. Enjoy the cafe setting and decorations. Love to come back more often. Managed to sample few varieties of dishes. Good family place to hang out. This cafe advertised as children friendly. I do not see many toys or any playground for young children to enjoy.
Customer : This is one of our favourite cafes! Although the menu changes seasonally, the food is always great. The staff are always friendly and helpful, and the coffee is great. Part of the same group as Melba, B & B is worth the drive and the money.
There’s also fresh bread and baked goods available in the cabinet.
Personal recommendation: try the house hash brown!
